She fell and hurt herself at her home in November.
But now Carrie Underwood is finally revealing the scale of her injuries.
The country music star revealed in a message to fans on Sunday that she had suffered severe damage to her face.
Underwood, 34, had revealed at the time of the accident that she had been hospitalized with a broken wrist.
But it turns out that the fall was much more serious.
Life-changing injuries: Carrie Underwood revealed in a message to fans on Sunday that she had suffered severe damage to her face requiring 40 to 50 stitches in a fall at her home in November. She covered most of her face in this Instagram photo she shared last week
While she is on the mend, Underwood warned her fans that she is ‘not quite looking the same’ as a result of the facial cuts and the stitches required to close them, Entertainment Tonight reported.
She wrote to members of her fan club on Sunday: ‘I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way. And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.’
Underwood, who is married to Canadian former professional ice hockey player Mike Fisher, continued: ‘It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.’
‘I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.’

The accident happened a few days after she co-hosted and performed at the 51st Country Music Association Awards Show in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 8.
It prevented her from being able to perform as scheduled at the Country Rising benefit show in Nashville on November 12.
She hasn’t posted any pictures of herself that show her face to social media since the accident.
But a few days ago, she did post a selfie wearing a large woolen scarf around her head and neck leaving just her eyes visible.
The image was a promotion for the scarf from her CALIA by Carrie fitness and lifestyle line.
